I am so blessed to have so many of you as friends and role models. And your children are SO blessed to be able to call you all "Mom."♥
As for my own kids....?... well, their mom could certainly stand to use some improvement. (I'm not sure I can even pray hard enough and often enough for PEACE & PATIENCE these days. Oh Summer Break... please be kind... ) But I'm trying.
And for some reason, they still love me.
For that, I am the one who is blessed.
And they certainly did a lovely job of showing me just how much they love me this Mother's Day! (With many many thanks to their wonderful Daddy.)
After showering me with dozens of handmade cards - that they had literally been working on, saving, and hiding for WEEKS -
.How cute are those?!? ♥♥♥
... then they also surprised me with a beautiful hanging basket that I very much wanted.
Sonshine and Flowers. What could be better?♥
Then it was a very special morning in church Sunday School helping all my 3 year olds make their own mommies something special.
So bright and cheerful!
And my little class did such a careful job coloring and decorating for their mommies.
It was so fun and so sweet.
And after church we were off to a real life CASTLE :) (The boys were so excited and did such a great job of keeping this secret for so long!)
Jared and I stayed the night at Landoll's Mohican Castle for our anniversary one year and it was just so pretty and peaceful. He found out that they had a special lunch banquest just for Mother's Day and decided to take us all there for a relaxing afternoon of yummy food and peaceful hiking around. It was so pretty. Just perfect.
Me and my big boys at the Castle
My new favorite picture ♥
Going to do a little explorin'!
Shenanigans by the castle protector
(Look at their faces!! How into it they are! Haha. I LOVE IT.)
This guy. ♥
Handsome, handsome, handsome....
And after a delicious meal - that also came with the wonderful, added BONUS surprise of 3 well-behaved little boys! (score.) - we went back out for a bit more adventure.
This time... up.
We climbed stair after stair to the tip top of the highest tower.
And peeked out for a glimpse....
Some of us (**raises hand wildly**) were more nervous than others.
But we did it!
And then it was time to climb down for a bit more wandering.
They took turns trying out the silliest, lowest hammock we've ever seen. lol....
... and getting stuck. Ha.
"Oh great. Now I 'tuck too."
Then they found a sewer hole looking thing...
So naturally, Ninja Turtle-ing ensued.
Hi-ya!!
They goofed around with Mommy a little more
Took one more nice picture with me.
I mean, it was like my day. They were sort of obligated to humor me with so many pictures.. ;)
And then they found a toad.
So, the whole day was worth it.
:)
Then it was on to dinner!!!
And I got to goof around with THIS crazy girl...♥
Look how pretty my mom is.
:)
Plus she puts up with all my crap, she always loves me, she always forgives me, and she LISTENS to me when I talk.
And she lets me talk A LOT.
I love my mom.
And that was it! My lovely, thoughtful, relaxing, special Mother's Day.
And it it was just what I needed. ♥
Because I'll tell you.. our life isn't quite as picturesque as it looks in photos.
Like.. not even close.
Guys, I am stressed and I'm forgetful.
I'm tired and I'm easily overwhelmed.
And I very much feel that being a mom can sometimes feel like a rather monotonous and thankless job.
(Oh, and I'm always always going to be late - so, ya know, just count on that.)
But if I just open my eyes for a minute and stop being so distracted/flustered/busy... I think maybe it's not all that hard to see that I'm also very loved.
It's rowdy and it's noisy and it's sometimes hard to distinguish through all the chaos.... but it's there. It's always there.
And it's always easier to count your blessing in the quiet of the day. Looking back. Always easier to see clearer once the noise and the static and the crazy dust have all settled....
But blessed we are.
We are healthy. We are secure. We are a team. And we are held together by love.
That's all we need.
Everything else is memories and details.
