Who says you can't stay home, be safe, stay warm, go to bed at a decent hour, and still have oodles and oodles of Halloween fun?!
This year, we did just that! As soon as Holden stepped off the bus last Friday, it was time to get ready for our own little Halloween Party!
A couple days earlier - when it was much warmer - we did already carve our jack-o-lanterns. So those guys were ready to go!
Here were all the little master carvers... busy cleaning pumpkin guts.

And Graham mostly preferred to play with his lady bug friend
But Bridger did get him to touch a few small guts!
And then they sorted the seeds - so we could roast them later - while I did the carving.

So, during the day on Halloween, Bridger and Graham helped me carry in all the pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns.. and get the house all decorated up and looking spooky for our party that night!

And a huge spiderweb for the boys to crawl through!!
So as soon as Holden got home, the boys all took a quick bath and then found orange shirts and Halloween socks...
...and we got that party started!!

And then it was time to Bob for Apples!
(Holden has been dying to do this forever!)
They listerned closely while I explained the (very simple) rules:
Hands behind your backs.
Be nice.
Don't drown.
Be nice.
Don't drown.
And then they were off!
I think they could have done this for an hour.
Bridger figured out that the stem was easier to grab.. and he got one!
And then Holden got it all figured out, too!
But suddenly.... creeeeeeeping up from behind on the
dirty, old, dark basement stairs....
a masked figure appeared!!!

And - much as I expected - no one was even a teensy bit scared.

So, ya know, then the guy from the Scream movies just hung out and watched us bob for apples some more.
Ha.
(But doesn't it look funny with him just sitting in the background like that?)

It was fun. :)
But then it was time for our next silly event....

And next we played a game where we rolled the dice and drew a face on our jack-o-lanterns..
(...rules were broken... but it was still a good time ;) )
And then it was time for one more
ooey.... gooey....

...squishy... mushy... greasy... AWESOME game.....

And in they went.
Pulling out all the little "treasures" they found buried inside.
Then it was time for their spooky, Halloween feast!

And while they ate, we played one more game with all those foil-covered bowls there on the right.
One by one I let them each slowly reach into the bowls and experience what it was like
to really be brave enough to feel....

They had so much fun.
Even if Mr. Smarty-Pants-Holden knew it was just carrots... ;)
And after they ate their Zombie Brains (Jello mold) dessert, there was just enough time to play with the Sticky Spider Web before bed....
This was so simple. And they LOVED it.
And then it was time to call it a night!
So they drank their milk, brushed their teeth, found all their blankies,
and took their glow-in-the-dark spider rings up to bed.
All in all? An totally smashing Homemade Halloween Hullaballoo. :)
